This policy covers crochetpirate.com, its free patterns, tutorials, and pages. The Crochet Pirate app has a separate privacy policy, and you can find it inside the app.
What we collect
- No accounts, no comments, no ads. You can read and download every pattern without telling us anything about yourself.
- Visit statistics. We use Mixpanel to count which pages are read and which links to the app are followed, so we can see what is useful. It sets one cookie that tells one visitor from another, and it sees the pages you open, your browser and roughly where you are (from your IP address).
- Recordings of visits. Mixpanel also records visits to the site: the pages as they looked, and where you scrolled and clicked, so we can see where a page is hard to use. Anything you type into a field is hidden in the recording.
- Google Analytics. We also use Google Analytics to count visits. It sees the pages you open, how far you scroll, which links you follow (the links to the app too), your browser and device, and roughly where you are (from your IP address, which Google doesn't store). It sets the cookies _ga and _ga_ that tell one visitor from another. We don't use it for advertising: Google signals and ads personalization are turned off.
- Saying no. If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, neither Mixpanel nor Google Analytics is loaded: we don't count or record your visits and no statistics cookie is set. You can also block Google Analytics on every site with Google's opt-out browser add-on.
- No advertising. The site doesn't use advertising networks or advertising cookies.
- Server logs. Just like any site, our host keeps short-term tech logs (IP address, browser, the page you asked for) to keep things running and safe.
- Missing pages. When a page isn't found we note the address that was asked for (without your IP address), so we can fix broken links.
- Email. If you email us, we use your email just to reply.
Fonts and pictures
We host fonts and pictures on our own site ourselves. So when a page loads, your details don't go out to any font or image services.
Links to the app
Links beginning with crochetpirate.com/app lead to the Crochet Pirate app. They might include a note about the page or banner you came from (like utm_source=site), so we can tell which pages are helpful; they don't identify you. Mixpanel's cookie is shared with the app, so if you sign in there using the same browser, your visits here get counted along with your app account.
Your rights
At [email protected], you can ask us to delete what we hold about you, or ask what we have.
